So by now, you likely have heard that P90X3 is out, all of the workouts are 30 minutes long (plus a short cool-down for many of them) and it is awesome! But understandably, you may be wondering how good of a workout you can get in those 30 minutes, and how many calories you burn during it. I used to be very fixated on calories, constantly counting the number I would eat and the approximate number I would burn. I’m far less focused on the actual number of calories I consume, rather I try to eat a healthy, well balanced diet with a lot of organic foods, and have been cutting back on meat and dairy. That’s my choice, not saying you have to do that to get results. I do however, still like to track how many calories I burn during my workouts. It’s not necessarily the most important factor in determining how good a workout was, but it’s often a good indicator, particularly for cardio routines. So using my Polar FT4 series Heart Rate Monitor, here are my calories burns for P90X3 workouts.

By the way, I am about 5’10″, 162 pounds, 26 years old with extremely low body fat. Don’t think that these will necessarily be your calorie burns for these workouts unless you are the exact same body type as me. Your calorie burn varies on your height and weight, age, fitness level, body fat percentage and the level of intensity at which you do the workout. This is just me and my calorie burn.

Just remember, calories aren’t the end all be all of fitness. Yes it’s good to burn them, but there are other important factors. Also remember that these are 30 minute workouts, so don’t go in expecting to burn 1000 calories, it’s just not realistic. Cardio routines generally burn more than resistance routines, and of course you can’t expect to burn a ton of calories with Yoga, Pilates and stretching, but that’s not to say that they don’t have their own important benefits.
